Chili Dog

Welcome back!
Next up in our line of homemade fast food is a chili dog! This is mainly a recipe for the chili part because the hot dog is, well, just a normal hot dog. This chili can be used for a variety of other things, such as in wraps or topped on fries. I honestly think that this recipe is rather true to the original thing, like something you would get at Sonic.

Chili Dog

Ingredients:

Chili:
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon each of garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Assembly:
  • Hot dogs
  • Hot dog buns
  • Other toppings including, but not limited to:
    • Red onion, diced
    • Cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:

  1. Saute the onions until soft. Then, add the garlic.
  2. Add in the ground beef and stir until the color changes.
  3. Throw in the spices. Now, lower the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Once ready, assemble the hot dog and top with chili and whatever other toppings you like.
And there you go! This is really a great recipe for cookouts too. As you can see, we paired it with fresh corn on a cob just like a real outdoor cookout, though just in our house! Now, you too can bring a barbecue to your own house, especially with our other recipe for homemade burgers.

Fig Crème Fraîche Cake

Welcome back!  Today, we have a cake featuring an interesting fruit: the fig! Figs are typically eaten dried or in some processed form because they don't stay fresh for long, so making this dish out of fresh figs was quite nice. Once completed, the fig flavor blends in very well with the rest of the cake and creates a dessert that is flavorful but not overly rich. Fig Crème Fraîche Cake Makes a 9" cake Ingredients: 1/2 pound figs, quartered (if you have big figs, maybe 6-8 slices) 120 grams cake flour 50 grams almond flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt 50 grams sugar 60 grams honey 120 grams crème fraîche 3 eggs 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon Grand Marnier 1/2 cup melted butter Directions: In a bowl, sift in the dry ingredients (cake flour, almond flour, baking powder, and salt).
