Classic Cheeseburger

Welcome back!
This is the first post in a series of foods that are modeled off of traditional fast food dishes. Because of the quarantine, we haven't been able to go out much and eat this stuff like normal, so we decided to make it instead. Plus, this stuff is a lot healthier than the fast food versions. Today, we've got your classic American burger. This is gonna be a little different from our other recipes since there's not a whole lot to the ingredients, so we'll basically be focusing on making the patty.

Cheeseburger

Makes 4 burgers

Ingredients:

  • 24 oz. ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • The rest of your burger ingredients - literally whatever you want!

Directions:

  1. Split the beef into 6 ounce portions (this is about a third of a pound)
  2. Take each of the 6 ounce portions and flatten them into patty-shaped pieces. Tip: Make your patties larger than your buns because they will shrink during the process of cooking!
  3. Sprinkle on your salt and pepper (you can do one or both sides depending on how seasoned you want it).
  4. Oil a pan and turn the stove on medium heat. Once heated, you can started grilling your burger!
  5. For 6 ounce patties, cook each side for about 4 minutes. Of course, this depends on your stove, the thickness of the patty, and how the cow was feeling, so you may need to experiment a little.
  6. After flipping once, grill for two minutes, then place a slice of cheese on top of the burger. This way, the cheese will be melting on the patty for another two minutes while it cooks for a total of 4 minutes.
  7. Take it off of the stove, then assemble your burger! Tip: Stick a toothpick through your burger if you have a lot of toppings; they'll tend to slide around a lot. Even if it doesn't go all the way through, it'll help.
Bonus Tip: Lightly grill your buns on a pan. This will make it stay solid better and be more palatable.

You thought that was all? There's actually more! In this burger, we used a signature sauce, similar to that of McDonald's Big Mac. So here it is:

Signature Sauce

Makes quite a bit

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup mayo
  • 2 teaspoons relish
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • A pinch of black pepper and paprika

Directions:

  1. Mix them together.
  2. That's it!
Now you can make a great burger with some great sauce. With fresh ingredients, this is truly a burger that you could eat every day! Plus, you can change up the ingredients - add some bacon, some avocado, an egg, or mushrooms, whatever suits your fancy. Stay tuned for more fast food recreations!

Bonus: Burgerpo!
He's a Dippo that looks like a burger, but that doesn't mean he's good to eat!

Tuscan Soup

Welcome back!  Today, we have a delicious soup originating from Tuscany, Italy (this is the region where Florence is in). Traditionally, this dish is a combination of various vegetables with some Italian bacon and Tuscan bread. The one we made is more Americanized, featuring Italian sausage, and it's a little heartier. However, they are still pretty similar in the vegetables used: kale, potatoes, carrots, etc.  Tuscan Soup Makes 4 servings Ingredients: 1/2 tablespoon olive oil 8 to 10 ounces Italian sausage 1 medium onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons flour 3 cups chicken broth 1 to 2 cups half & half 1 large potato, diced 1 medium carrot, diced 1/2 bunch kale, chopped Salt and pepper to taste Directions: Steam the potato and carrot and save it for later. With the olive oil in a pot, cook the Italian sausage until browned.  Remove the sausage from the pot. Saute the onion and garlic in the pot. Add the flour into the pot and mix. Add in the chicken br...
