Ahi Tuna Tower

Welcome back!  Today, we have a recipe for high-end dining at home: Ahi Tuna Tower! Ahi tuna towers are defined by their layers of fresh and delicious sashimi-inspired ingredients. Although there isn't as much cooking involved - the fish is raw, of course - preparing this dish like you would see in a restaurant takes careful touch and an eye for visual balance. You'll actually see three different ways that we prepared this tuna tower, all with slightly different arrangements - hopefully you can get some inspiration for how you can put this dish together. Ahi Tuna Tower Makes 4 towers Ingredients: These ingredients are for a layer of mango/cucumber, avocado, crab salad, and tuna in each tower. For garnishes, you might need some extra, and if you want to edit what's in each stack, then you might need to change the proportions. 12 ounces sashimi-grade tuna, diced For the sauce - check out our  Poke  recipe for several examples 2 mangoes, diced 1 mini cucumber, diced (or Pers...

Gourmet Creamy Cheesecake

Welcome back!  Today, we have another delicious cheesecake. Over the course of the blog, we've made a lot of different cheesecakes involving all different sorts of  variations. So this time, we decided to use a recipe adapted from the Japanese bakery Mr. Cheesecake, who released a recipe for their cheesecake. Their cheesecakes look heavenly, so of course, we had to try it ourselves! Gourmet Creamy Cheesecake Ingredients: 1 8-ounce box cream cheese 60 grams sugar 100 grams whipping cream 50 grams white chocolate 1/4 vanilla bean pod 2 egg yolks 230 grams plain Greek yogurt 9 grams lemon juice 20 grams corn starch Directions: Prepare the first mixture: In a double boiler, put the cream cheese and sugar together and mix until soft. Prepare the second mixture: In a pot, pour in the whipping cream and white chocolate.  Cut the vanilla pod in half and scrape the seeds into the pot. Put the pod into the pot. Put this on the stove at low heat until bubbles start to form on the ed...

Tonkatsu

Welcome back!  Today, we have a delicious Japanese dish: Tonkatsu! This literally means "pork cutlet", since that's what it is: a pork loin cutlet, breaded and fried. It's one of the most popular dishes in Japan; it's also a symbol of good luck, so students like to eat it before big tests. It's often served with a special tonkatsu sauce, as described below, but there are other varieties, like with curry or with an egg on rice: a katsudon.  Tonkatsu Ingredients: Pork loin cutlets (about 1/2" thick) Salt and pepper Some flour An egg Breadcrumbs (panko) Sauce: 4 tablespoons ketchup 2 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoons worcesterschire sauce 2 tablespoons mirin 1 tablespoon sugar Directions: Pat dry the pork chops and pound them evenly with a meat tenderizer. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper on both sides. Dip each pork chop in flour, then in egg (beat the egg, obviously), and then in the breadcrumbs. Put these on a baking pan and spray some oil on them. Apple Curry

Welcome back, Chefpo Jr. here!  Today, we have a fantastic apple curry inspired by Pokémon Sword and Shield! In the game, you can camp out with your Pokémon and cook up a curry for them to enjoy. The curries come in many different flavors, but my favorite one is the apple curry. This curry is a delectable Japanese-style curry with a fruity punch. Filled with chunky vegetables, juicy chicken, and groovin' apple pieces, this curry will have you gobbling it down by the spoonful like a Munchlax. I like it spicy, but this curry works with any spice level, so be sure to adjust it to fit your needs.  Apple Curry Our curry The curry from the game, pretty close, huh? Photo from Nintendo Makes 4 servings Ingredients: Rice 2 cups rice 1/2 teaspoon turmeric Curry 1 to 1 1/2 pounds chicken 1 large onion 1 large potato 2 medium carrots 1 apple About 100 grams curry sauce cubes* 2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 tablespoon sake 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 cups water Red pe...
