Hot Korean Chicken Wings

Welcome back!
Today, we have another recipe for chicken wings (yes, there's already been a couple, but this one has completely different ingredients - besides the chicken). It uses a very popular Korean flavor that makes it spicy and delicious! This once again uses the air-fry setting on our oven to cook the chicken just right, and it always comes out nice and juicy. It's a delicious adaptation of a classic American dish!

Hot Korean Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

  • About 2 pounds of chicken wings
  • Some flour
  • Sesame seeds
Marinade:
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
Sauce:
  • 4 tablespoons gochujang
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

Directions:

  1. Prepare the marinade by mixing the ingredients listed under "Marinade" above. Put the chicken in with the marinade and let rest for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
  2. After marinating, take the chicken wings out and coat them with a thin layer of flour.

  3. Prepare the sauce:
    • Put all the ingredients listed under "Sauce" above except for the sesame oil into a pot. Cook until it boils, then add the sesame oil.
  4. Air-fry the wings at 375°F for 10 minutes.
  5. Flip the wings over and bake for 10 more minutes.

  6. Brush on the sauce, the bake for another 5 minutes.
  7. Take them out and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.

Of course, due to the wholly meaty nature of this dish, people like to serve this with some assorted sides dishes to help balance and diversify the flavor; in Korean, these are the banchan, which is comparable to Spanish tapas. Some of these banchan involve kimchi, little pancake-type dishes (called jeon), tofu, or pickled vegetables. Having a combination of these makes for a full and very interesting meal!
